Facelift Candidates
No doubt you're quite familiar with what a facelift does, but you may not be familiar with the many variations of the traditional facelift. Now, there are many partial facelifts available which can be customized for your face and neck aging. These types of lifts are described in detail on this website.
If your face shows the effects of aging and environmental damage with loosening of the skin and muscle, creating jowls, sagging cheeks, deepening nasolabial folds, a scowling expression because the corner of your lips are downturned, and a loose neck, you can benefit from a facelift. Dr. Sam Rizk, a New York City board certified facial plastic surgeon and facelift expert, will listen to your concerns and discuss options and create a customized plan for your face and neck.
NOT EVERY PATIENT WITH EFFECTS OF AGING NEEDS A COMPLETE TRADITIONAL FACELIFT.
According to Dr. Rizk, he performs many customized partial Facelifts, addressing specific areas of concerns with a much more rapid recovery than traditional facelifts. You may be a candidate for a partial cheek or midface lift only, or you may be a candidate for a jowl lift or partial lower facelift and necklift, or a neck lift only. Dr. Rizk will tell you after a detailed examination if you are a suitable candidate for a facelift and inform you of benefits, longevity (average 8-10years), and potential risks. You will also have a chance to view before and after photos of Dr. Rizk's patients who have undergone procedures similar to what you are considering.
The following are issues that need to be considered when thinking of a facelift:
Skin type: The procedure is performed with excellent results in both light- and dark-skinned individuals in their thirties to sixties or seventies and even in their eighties if they are in good health.
Weight: People who are mildly to moderately overweight may enjoy some improvement from a facelift. Dr. Sam Rizk prefers a patient to have a stable weight within 10lbs of his ideal body weight.
Facial Bones: Patients with deficient bone structure (flat cheeks and small chin) may be candidates for chin or cheek implants or fat injection at the same time as their facelift to achieve a balanced natural outcome. Patients with osteoporosis need to take appropriate supplements.
Smokers: Active smokers need to reduce or quit smoking at least 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after the facelift surgery. The type of facelifts performed on smokers is a more limited partial lift since smokers have higher risks with a complete traditional facelift.
Dr. Rizk recommends that perspective patients make a list of the aspects of their face or aging they would like improved prior to their consultation. Prior to any facelift procedure Dr. Rizk will require medical clearance which, depending on your age, may include either blood work alone or a more extensive clearance with EKG and a letter from your medical doctor.
Lastly, this website has a lot of detailed information provided to make you an informed patient.
